Flare: iconic fit that knows no time

The flare pattern has an iconic, timeless fit; it is a pant that gradually widens from the waist to the bottom of the leg, thus creating a slender silhouette that flatters the figure, creating a harmonious balance between the hips and bottom.

Often offered high-waisted, the flare helps create the effect of longer legs, making them a popular option for those who want to accentuate their height.

Important not to confuse them with classic bell-bottoms and flared jeans.

It is a type of pant that harkens back to the 1970s, this type was first used in the 1800s by American sailors and then borrowed by fashion in the 1960s and 1970s, until it became a defining element of the looks of the hippy era. During those years they were worn by the likes of Cher, Sonny, Twiggy, Mick Jagger and Jimi Hendrix.

In the 1980s, the flare pattern was revisited in a more elegant and sophisticated way, often made of luxurious fabrics such as silk or velvet and paired with structured jackets and high heels.

Today, the flare pattern is back in vogue, reinterpreted in a modern key and offered in different variations, both in materials and shapes, with the addition of streetwear accents, to be worn with sneakers or oversized shirts.

One of the new additions to the trend is the return of the low-waisted flare, an homage to the 1990s. This type of flare has a more casual effect than the high-waisted version, which has been dominant in recent years.

For Shaft, the flare is an iconic, continuous fit that reflects the brand's vintage rock '70s spirit that we revisit in every collection; some of our designs with this fit are the Piccadilly and especially one of our bestsellers: the Flaire.
